The drafts displayed here depict the collaborative working style between the artist and writer. First written by Hayashi, her text became the narrative framework Wong used to render the personal stories and historic events. Many of Wong’s compositions drew directly from World War II photographs, giving the images a historical context, albeit populated by people rendered in chibi stylization.
